A NEW LIFE FOR THE GAME: APPRECIATE IT & DEVELOP!

FIBA's NEW 3 on 3
*
at Youth Olympic Games
*
All players and parents should consider YOG and FIBA 33 as liberating form of basketball, which will open many more doors to enjoy new basketball opportunities in addition to traditional one. It is indeed the miracle that excited free for all basketball becomes official. The game is more personal, it places accountability on the players, it encourages vibrant creativity!

There were many instances of players being cut from their teams or from their advancement on the grounds of subjective opinions of non-playing personal: coaches, administrators, owners... you name it. The pattern repeats itself again and again, it becomes disadvantage to the basketball. Players are switching to other sports, responsible people most often are left unaccountable. Most famous accounts were published in the national power house - New York Times - few years ago and it still resonates:
*
*
This is only one article which reached the national level. How many cases left unknown to the general public. In my playing years I was a very competitive player and my personal experiences are on the level of those in NY Times article. The real and main issue here lies not in anyone's accountability, but in the old and unchangeable structure of basketball selectivity. While at the beginning it develops and stimulates player character for team oriented mindset, higher levels of competition affords all the powers to non-playing personal and very little to the players themselves: stories of over-control by "authorities" are told from generation to generation. Most of the time they smelled like power hunger and very often they were exactly that. The change was needed many years ago and, thanks to Highest Spirit, the change has come.
*
I always admired 2 on 2 tennis and similar team work in other sports, where players themselves are in charge of the choices they make and the results they achieve. There are many wonderful coaches, agents and other related non-playing people, whose influence player's future, but I always thought they should have advisory role, but not the decisive one of who plays and how long.
*
I always dreamt about liberated form of basketball where players themselves would make decisions and compete for ultimate win. Referee on court is always needed, but player herself/himself should be accountable for his current choices and future direction. Imaging every school runs 3 on 3 tournament and the winning team advances to represent the school. Do you think it would not challenge the players to develop their best? When players choose themselves whom they want on their team and who the team coach (or playing coach) will be, they are bound by their choice to push themselves harder.

In 2008 the IOC* announced 1st ever Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which starts in Singapore, 2010. Supporting such outstanding platform, opening for youth basketball, FIBA** introduced new game of 3 on 3 for young players. Below are the related articles:

I'll repeat myself to stress the importance of the momentum: all players and parents should consider YOG and FIBA 33 as liberating form of basketball, which will open many more doors to enjoy new basketball opportunities in addition to traditional one. It is indeed the miracle that excited free for all basketball becomes official. The game is more personal, it places accountability on the players, it encourages vibrant creativity!

Congratulations to all true fans of the wonderful game of basketball !!!

P.S.
Just try the following game on one basket: have few teams by 3 and let them play till the 1st basket made by any team. Team which made the basket stays on the court, other one is out. New team joins the game and enters the ball. Again they play till whoever scores. This rotation brings the best out of each team. The team which reaches 10 wins. You just watch how everyone becomes involved in such contest... :)

SING or PLAY ALONG

The idea of the below Yodio is to provide musical environment to parents looking for affordable way to bring music lessons to their children.
.

As I mentioned previously, B is a music teacher at Santa Monica k-8 school and she has extensive experience in nurturing kids to open up and find their musical gift. Many Westside families found B through Suzuki Association of the Americas, leading institution of children music education.

B has taught violin ensemble classes at Santa Monica College for five years and you see them in the Yodio pictures. Many UCLA parents bring their kids to the renown teacher. Extensive studies in neural processing of music discover how important music learning is to children perceptual, cognitive and social development.
Suzuki Association is dedicated to Early Child Education and brings the research on front page of its popular web site. Meanwhile, currently I have on my reading table two books:

- "This is Your Brain on Music" by Daniel J. Levitin,
- "MUSICOPHILIA: Tales of Music and the Brain" by Oliver Sacks.

One of the tools B uses at her home studio with great success is computer accompaniment. This basically is harmonic metronome, which makes it easy for a student to learn to intonate, count rhythm and develop ensemble playing reasoning. B's violin/viola students had significant achievement in raising their performance level. As a result many of the advanced students had moved to the leading chairs at their school orchestras, some of them achieved even principal chair. B's student Maiani recently graduated Boston Music Conservatory.

The above Yodio lets every student to take recorder, violin, other instrument into their hands and to learn play along the beautiful ALLEGRO by Suzuki.

Enjoy!

ENJOYING the YODIO!

I recently found web site http://www.yodio.com/, liked it so much that few days in a row I am glued to the computer to produce some facinating Yodios. Let me share one of them I already posted publicly:

Here is an excerpt from LABYRINTH, composition I composed on my youthful dreams years ago while still in Lithuania:

LABYRINTH visual output uses dynamic fractals.
TV show was produced at Santa Monica Adelphia Cable TV. Here is an excerpt of the video:
